Honoring Coach Barham

Cast Iron Ministries is hosting "Running on Faith, A Night of Hope," to honor and benefit Zachary Coach Sam Barham from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15 at the Cypress Title/Future Cut parking lot, 4470 Main St., Zachary.

Chicken dinners are $10. Beverages are $1. Dinners can be picked up or eaten on site with music by Mark Knaps and guest speakers.

Tickets can be purchased at Cypress Title, Future Cut or Pretty Woman.

Slaughter Fest

Slaughter Fest, hosted by the Slaughter schools, fire department and civic club, starts at 9 a.m. Oct. 21.

Events will include a Knights costume fun run, games, door prizes, inflatables, vendors, food and free music by Mark Knaps and Klair Ann. For information, email slaughter.civic@yahoo.com.

Awareness walk

The Breast Cancer Awareness Walk will be from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 14 at the Old Chaneyville High track, 12828 Jackson Road. All ages are welcome.

Donations are $20 and benefit Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge, American Cancer Society and Susan G. Komen Cancer Foundation. Checks can be made to any of the groups.

Blood drive

United Blood Services is holding a blood drive from 6:45 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, at Lane Regional Medical Center inside the Staff Development Classroom, near the hospital cafeteria.

All successful donors receive a T-shirt and a movie ticket, and will be entered to win an Amazon Echo. Donors also receive a free cholesterol test.

Donors can also visit www.unitedbloodservices.org the day of their donation and click on the Health History Questionnaire to complete the interview portion beforehand. Print the "fast track" donation ticket and bring it with you.

Crawl help sought

The Regional Arts Council of Zachary is seeking volunteers for the annual Fall Art Crawl on Friday, Nov. 3.

People are asked to work 1-hour shifts at the information table, checking IDs at the wine tasting or collecting garbage. Clean-up crews are needed from 9 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. to help break down equipment and pick up trash boxes.

Loving memories 

The third annual Baby Lane Remembers, a Pregnancy and Infant Loss Ceremony will be held at 6 p.m., Monday, Oct. 16, on the Lane Regional Medical Center Fitness Track, behind the hospital, 6300 Main St., Zachary.

The service is for anyone, especially parents, family, friends and professionals who have been affected by perinatal loss, such as miscarriage, stillbirth, SIDS or the death of a newborn.  

The ceremony will feature music, readings, candle lighting, balloon release, bubbles and fellowship. Lawn chairs and blankets are welcome. For details, call (225) 658-4587.

Golf tournament

A breast cancer awareness golf tournament to benefit the Zachary-Baker Relay for Life will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 14, at Fennwood Country Club. The fee is $40 a player with three-person teams. Sign up is at the clubhouse. Entry includes food and prizes.
