BATON ROUGE — On Jan. 30, narcotics agents with the State Police, East Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office and Zachary Police Department completed an extensive joint narcotics investigation. The nearly two-year investigation yielded 26 arrests for multiple felony narcotics violations, the seizure of approximately $90,577 (street value) in illegal narcotics and 21 illegally possessed firearms, according to a news release.

The investigation began in February 2016 as a joint operation between the State Police and the East Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office to identify individuals distributing illegal narcotics in and around East Feliciana Parish. The investigation quickly grew to include the Zachary Police Department becoming a part of the joint operation, according to the release.

Over nearly two years, investigators identified numerous individuals involved in the sale of illegal narcotics in East Feliciana and northern East Baton Rouge parishes. In January, agents initiated a plan to conclude the operation by serving multiple search warrants and arrest warrants in East Feliciana and East Baton Rouge Parishes.

“I am very happy to announce with these law enforcement agencies the success of this narcotics operation,” East Feliciana Parish Sheriff Jeff Travis said . “This operation represents a true partnership between multiple law enforcement agencies all working together to serve and protect our citizens. There were several individuals apprehended in East Feliciana Parish. I would like to thank all of the EFPSO staff for their hard work, and all other law enforcement agencies that helped us bring these individuals to justice to make East Feliciana Parish a safer place to live.”

“This narcotics roundup was a direct result of agencies pulling resources together to build narcotics distribution cases in and around the Zachary area,” said Chief David McDavid, Zachary Police Department. “In 2016, I created a full-time Narcotics Unit to work and build cases on drug violators that were operating in the Zachary area.

"This was a commitment I made to the Zachary residents in 2011 as I ran for chief. Drug addiction destroys lives, tears families apart and harms society. The men and women of the Zachary Police Department will continue to work with other agencies to combat the flow of narcotics in the Zachary area. I want to thank all of the agencies that were involved in this operation,” the chief said.

The Louisiana State Police, East Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office and Zachary Police Department were assisted through the course of the investigation by State Police SWAT, State Police Criminal Patrol Unit, State Police Fugitive Apprehension Unit, State Police Fusion Center, East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Department SWAT, West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Division, West Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Division, Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Division, Jackson Police Department and Delta Narcotics Task Force.
