Saints host Madison Prep in District 6-3A clash
The West Feliciana football team scored on its first seven possessions last Friday in rolling to a 51-8 District 6-3A triumph over winless Mentorship Academy.
Quarterback Derek Turner scored on 12- and 22-yard runs and passed 29 yards to Clayton Howard for a touchdown. Howard also had an 18-yard scoring run, Darius Davis added a touchdown run and Bennett Clement scored on two runs.
The Saints improved to 6-1 overall and 3-1 in District 6-3A and will entertain Madison Prep Friday. Madison Prep picked up its third straight victory, 28-22, over Baker and improved to 3-4 overall and 3-0 in District 6-3A.
East Feliciana rolls to win
East Feliciana improved to 3-4 overall and 2-1 in District 7-2A with last week’s 34-0 triumph over winless Church Academy.
Maleek Chriss returned the opening kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown and later added a 35-yard punt return for another score. Running back DeAndre Patton added a game-high 90 rushing yards and two more scores on runs for the Tigers and quarterback Caleb Anderson tossed a 29-yard touchdown pass to Teverick Sims. The EFHS defense held Church to 50 yards of total offense and forced three turnovers.
The Tigers have three games remaining including Friday’s home contest against 7-2A foe Port Allen. The Pelicans are 2-5 overall and 1-2 in league play. East Feliciana will close out the season with district games at Episcopal (Oct. 27) and at Northeast (Nov. 3).
Centreville faces CCA
Centreville Academy will travel to play Clinton Christian Academy needing a victory to capture the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools’ District 4-2A title. The Tigers improved to 7-2 overall and 2-0 in district with last week’s 46-16 triumph over Amite School Center.
Silliman Institute will close out the regular season Friday in Natchez against Cathedral. Cathedral enters the game 5-4 overall and 1-1 in MAIS District 5-3A play after falling to Adams County Christian School, 48-3. Silliman improved to 3-6 overall and 1-1 in league play with last week’s 26-19 win over Central Private.
Wilkinson County Christian Academy dropped to 1-7 overall with last week’s 42-6 loss to Clinton Christian Academy. WCCA will travel to face Trinity Episcopal Day School (3-6, 1-0) before closing out the regular season against Claiborne.
Saints swimmers third
The West Feliciana girls and boys swimmers both finished third in the Capitol City Swim League’s cluster meet at Crawfish Aquatics last Saturday. The West Feliciana boys scored 199 points to finish behind Episcopal (382) and Plaquemine (256). The West Feliciana girls collected 183 points to finish behind University High (406) and Episcopal (279).
First-place finishes for the girls included Reagan Edwards in the 100-yard backstroke. Other top finishes were Edwards, third, 100 butterfly; Ruby Roberg, fifth, 100 freestyle and third, 100 breaststroke; Anna Clair Bergeron, fifth, 200 freestyle; Anna Giroir, fifth, 100 breast stroke; third, 200 freestyle relay and third, 400 freestyle relay.
Top finishes for the boys included Cole Dietz, fourth, 500 freestyle; Thomas Bergeron, fifth, 50 freestyle; third, 200 freestyle relay; third, 200 medley relay and fifth, 400 freestyle.
The CCSL Championship is scheduled for Oct. 28-29 at Crawfish Aquatics followed by the LHSAA state swim meet Nov. 15-18 at the SPAR Aquatic Center in Sulphur.
