The Plush Butterflyz Social Club sponsored a two-day breast cancer awareness event Oct. 2-3 in Jackson.
Founded five years ago by Debra Jackson, the club brings together women as one sisterhood to make a difference, a news release said. Members include Jackson, Janet Gant, Belinda Kelly, Keashu King, Monica Hills-Pierce, Natasha Ferguson-Brown, Belinda Kelly, Maggie Baker, Reneé Butler-Byrd, Shenitha Francis-Smith, Laronda Dunn-Wilson and Clarissa Hawkins.
The “Evening Pink Soiree,” held Oct. 2 at Old Centenary Inn’s banquet room, celebrated five cancer survivors: Melissa Hills-Jackson, Kim Brown-Singletary, Tammy George, Consandra Green and Jeane Fisher. Also in attendance and receiving recognition were survivors Christine Dawson and Barbara Dunn.
The Walk for Breast Cancer Awareness/Cure on Oct. 3 had participants walking 3 miles, followed by water, jambalaya and cake squares. Returning first were Trey’dez Green and Olivia Nolencz.
Pink balloons representing a loved one who had breast cancer were released by everyone in attendance.
