The East Feliciana Parish Drug and Alcohol Awareness Council has established three prescription drug drop boxes throughout the parish.

Located at Clinton Town Hall, 11209 Bank St., and the police departments in Jackson, 1610 Charter St., and Slaughter, 804 W. Railroad Ave., the boxes are for the collection of expired, unused or unwanted prescription medication.

Residents are encouraged to drop off their unwanted medicine in one of the boxes as a safe means of disposal.

More boxes will be set up in other locations soon, according to the organization.

Council on Aging activities planned

The East Feliciana Council on Aging, 11102 Bank St., in Clinton is open from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Most activities start at 11 a.m. and lunch is served at noon.

East Feliciana Parish Public Transit offers transportation to East Baton Rouge Parish Monday through Friday.

Clinton Market Day

Held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. every first Saturday of the month, the Clinton Community Market around the courthouse square features farmers selling local produce and vendors selling handmade arts and crafts and homemade goods.

Saturday’s market will feature a flag display.

‘Brave and Honored Dead’

At Centenary State Historic Site, 3522 College St. in Jackson, the “Our Brave and Honored Dead” program begins at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Centenary will host a Confederate Memorial Day program honoring the soldiers that fought during the Civil War, especially those who died at Centenary.

Local re-enactors will conduct a special service of remembrance, gun salute and a wreath-laying ceremony at the Civil War site inside the park grounds.

Civil War weapon demo

Port Hudson State Historic Site in Jackson, 236 U.S. 61, presents “Firepower!” at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Site staff will conduct demonstrations of Civil War-era reproduction cannons, carbines, muskets, pistols and rifles. A brief description will be given of each weapon and how it’s loaded and used. For information, call (225) 654-3775.

Summer movies slated

Every summer, the East Feliciana Parish Drug and Alcohol Awareness Council joins with the 20th Judicial District Attorney’s office to sponsor movies in the park.

Beginning at 7:30 p.m. June 12, the movie “Paddington” will be shown outdoors in front of Slaughter Town Hall between West Railroad Avenue and La. 19.

There is no admission, and everyone is welcome to bring blankets and lawn chairs to the show.

Additional movies are scheduled for Wilson in June, Jackson in July and Clinton in August.
