The Fifth Sunday celebration, a service and social held every fifth Sunday, was hosted by Second Baptist Church in Jackson on May 31 and attended by several East Feliciana Parish congregations.
The Rev. Clark Foshee Jr., pastor of Second Baptist, opened the program, welcoming all churches and members taking part in the ecumenical service.
The Rev. Marc Gregoire, of First Baptist Church in Wilson, introduced a group of former inmates who are now part of a worship team called New Beginnings. Gregoire said the men led a worship service on Sunday nights while incarcerated at East Feliciana Parish Prison.
“Today, God is still using them to declare his grace in their lives,” Gregoire said.
New Beginnings performed original songs for those attending the service and were joined by Gregoire during a few performances.
The men said when they receive the “calling” to go and sing for others, they do it without question.
New Beginnings performs at churches, parades and various community events throughout the Felicianas.
The service concluded with a meal and refreshments for all who attended.
