The town of Jackson will commemorate its 200-year history Saturday by holding Frontier Day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Museum Complex, 3406 College St .
This town-sponsored event is free, and everyone is invited to participate in demonstrations of sugar cane grinding, corn into meal, forging of metal by a blacksmith, an authentic cotton gin and hear about the process and local history of cotton in East Feliciana Parish.
Storytellers will be onsite with tales of folklore and history, lessons about native plants will be shared, and vendors will feature handcrafted and homemade items. Plenty of food and beverages will be available, as well.
Children are invited to participate in old-fashioned games such as wheelbarrow races, three-legged races, egg carrying and musical chairs.
Bands are scheduled to perform.

COA has much to offer
The East Feliciana Parish Council on Aging, 11102 Bank St., Clinton, is open from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Most activities for seniors start at 11 a.m., and lunch is served at noon.
The center provides items such as nutritional drinks, bed pads, dental products and more for East Feliciana Parish residents with cancer.
Also, the East Feliciana Public Transit offers transportation Monday through Friday to East Baton Rouge Parish for the elderly.

The Jackson Tourist Enhancement Committee will host its annual Spooktacular Ghost Walk from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday beginning at the corner of College and Charter streets in Jackson and continue along College to Centenary State Historic Site.
Activities include ghost stories, apple bobbing, candy, treats and more. College Street will be open to pedestrian traffic only.

Halloween at Centenary
Visitors to Centenary State Historic Site in Jackson are invited to the Professor’s House for treats handed out by costumed guides during a trick-or-treating event from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday.

‘Death of a General’
Port Hudson State Historic Site in Jackson will present “Medicine and Death of a General” from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8.
Throughout the day, learn about Civil War-era medicine and how soldiers were treated on the battlefield.
The death of Confederate Gen. John Bordenave Villepigue from a fever at Port Hudson will be examined during the program.

USO Dance planned
The Jackson Tourist Enhancement Committee is set to host its annual USO Dance from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Louisiana War Veterans Home in Jackson, 4739 La. 10.
The event features a band, dancing and a costume contest. Hot dogs, popcorn and cold drinks will be available.
