East Feliciana 4-H and East Feliciana High FFA Chapter hosted a beef and rabbit clinic on Oct. 15 at the West Feliciana Parish 4-H Barn.

Members of 4-H and FFA in East and West Feliciana parishes were invited to attend the free clinic to learn more about their beef and rabbit projects.

The beef clinic was conducted by Meredith DeLee, East Feliciana High School FFA adviser, and Blaine Guillot, of Youngsville, was on hand to trim hooves on the cattle.

The clinic focused primarily on showmanship, a member’s ability to exhibit their animal and show its best attributes. DeLee provided handouts for the attendees and their parents and reviewed what to do and not do in showmanship.

The kids were able to practice with their show calves in the show ring as DeLee helped them apply the presented information.

Beef Clinic participants were Gracie Freeman, Emma Knight, Julia Knight, Eden Robinson and Lilly Robinson, all of East Feliciana, and Callie DeLee, Trevor DeLee, Allie Spillman, Elizabeth Tidwell, Bodie Triche, Daniel Triche, Mackenzie Triche, Wyatt Wood and Lillian Wood, of West Feliciana.

John Mulkey, of Zachary, helped teach how to care for and show rabbits to Blair Coley, William Covington, Karis Otwell, Brooklyn Triche and Taylor Triche. Parents were able to observe.

All 4-H and FFA members that attended will be exhibiting their projects at the upcoming Feliciana Parishes Livestock Show in mid-January.
