CLINTON — East Feliciana Parish public school students will begin a new school year on Aug. 8, under the calendar the School Board approved Tuesday.
The board also recognized Victoria McMullen-Dunn as the district's Principal of the Year for 2018. She is the lead co-principal of East Feliciana High School in Jackson and began her career as an agriculture sciences teacher. McMullen-Dunn has bachelor's and master's degrees from Southern University and was a district Teacher of the Year in 2014. Ella Philson is the high school's other co-principal.
With classes beginning at 7:40 a.m. and ending at 3 p.m., the 2018-19 school calendar calls for 66,300 instructional minutes during the upcoming school year, or 2,580 more than is required by the state.
Single holidays are Labor Day, homecoming day (Oct. 19), Veterans Day and Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Students also will be off for Thanksgiving, Nov. 19-23; winter break, Dec. 21-31 and Jan. 1-4; Mardi Gras, March 4-6; and spring break, April 15-22, 2019.
May 22, 2019, will be the last day of the school year for students.
The board also recognized high school teacher and coach Cedric Anderson as Employee of the Month for March and Tanga Hollins as Volunteer of the Month at the high school.
