What's your East Feliciana film story?

Clinton resident Mildred Worrell is asking for help from area residents.

“I am the director of Marston House (ca. 1836, 11016 Bank St., Clinton), the classic Greek Revival structure that is on the National Register of Historic Places,” she said. “It has been restored in the last few years due to the generosity of one of the Marston heirs.”

She points out building has been a center for social activities — teas, showers, wedding receptions — but the small volunteer staff can no longer handle that.

“We have come to the conclusion that Marston House’s highest and best use may be as a location for displays and programs that feature local artists, historians and other lecturers of local interest,” she said. “Since the subject of movies filmed in and around Clinton blew into our consciousness, we are exploring the concept of housing an exhibit of same.”

Worrell said that initial talks with neighbors have brought up much interest.

“I was gratified to find out a large coterie of folks my age and a bit older not only are alive but sentient enough to remember the filming of the first movie classic, 'The Long, Hot Summer,' here in 1957-58."

Many have offered memorabilia and stories, she said.

“Let’s see if we can scratch up some old memories that can be used as colorful enhancement to the simple site maps. Pictures. Stories. Actual mementos,” Worrell said.
