Though the West Feliciana Education Foundation’s annual Dodgeball Challenge won’t be heldisn’t until Aug. 27 in St. Francisville, registration is open now, and the fee per team to participate is a non-refundable $200. However, that price increases to $225 on Friday and to $250 on Aug. 1.

One registration form per team of six people must be completed. There must be at least two women on each team, and all players must be at least age 21.

Each player will receive an event T-shirt, gift bag, two beers and jambalaya.

The person registering will be designated as the team captain and will be the liaison between the foundation and his or her team members. Tournament rules will be sent to team captains prior to the event. The registration deadline is Aug. 12, ; no exceptions.

The Dodgeball Challenge is a fundraiser for the West Feliciana Education Foundation, and proceeds from the tournament will directly impact the quality of education in West Feliciana schools. To register, visit wearewestfel.org/.

New E. Feliciana sheriff will be sworn in on FridayInauguration ceremonies set for new E.F. sheriff

Jeff Travis will be sworn into office as the new East Feliciana Parish sSheriff at 10 a.m. Friday in the parish courthouse in Clinton.

The community is invited to attend the program as Travis is administered the oath of office by Clerk of Court David Dart, who also is beginning a new term.

Because of tight quarters in the courthouse, Travis hopes to have the ceremony shown to an expected overflow crowd downstairs via a closed-circuit TV hookup. For those who cannot attend Friday’s ceremony, Travis will host a meet-and-greet Saturday on the courthouse lawn during the First Saturday Market.

Slaughter-a area residents are invited to attend the 2 p.m. inauguration ceremony for Mayor Robbie Jackson, who will be sworn into office for a second term. Refreshments will be served at both ceremonies, officials said.

Market part of Red, White and Blues Festival

Everyone is invited to the Red, White and Blues Festival in Clinton beginning at 6 p.m. Friday as blues bands perform around the East Feliciana Courthouse until fireworks start at 9 p.m.

The fun continues from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, as vendors set up for the First Saturday Market in the courthouse square and along St. Helena Street. Locally grown produce by area farmers, honey, pickled items, plate lunches and arts and handmade crafts will be available.

Waterslides, inflatables and games for youth as well as a DJ and more bands will follow at 2 p.m.

Fireworks set to blaze 
twice in West Feliciana

West Feliciana Parish residents have two options for fireworks during Independence Day weekend.

Big Chill in the Ville

Gates open at 4 p.m. Saturday at the parish Sports Park for the inaugural Big Chill in the Ville, featuring music, fun and fireworks as well as several tons of snow. Beginning at 5 p.m., two bands are scheduled to play: Boogie Long & The Blues Revolution followed by Phat Hat.

The evening will culminate with a professional fireworks show after dark. Admission is free.

All-American celebration

For fireworks on the Fourth of July, the American Legion, town of St. Francisville and West Feliciana Sports Park are bandning together to host an Independence Day celebration starting at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

Hot dogs and ice cream, as well as patriotic music, activities and fireworks at dark, will be featured.

East Feliciana Parish residents can head to Calvin Jackson Park in Wilson, where the Wilson Community Youth Organization will be hosting a Fireworks in the Park spectacular from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday. Everyone is invited.

Norwood inauguration rescheduled to July 21

The town of Norwood’s inauguration ceremony and the monthly meeting of the mayor and Board of Aldermen will be delayed by a week because of a scheduling conflict, Mayor Becky Bellue said.

Bellue, beginning her third term, said she and board membersAldermen Willie Duncan, Andy Jelks and Kimmi Adams Sellers will take their oaths of office in 6 p.m. ceremonies July 21, rather than July 14, as first announced.

The public is invited to attend, and refreshments will be served, said Bellue said.

The Board of Aldermen’s first meeting in members’ new terms will follow at 7 p.m.
