Lady Wildcats seek sixth softball title _lowres

The Clinton-based squad, coached by Trae Weaver, will be playing in the AAA South State playoffs Sept. 26 in Brookhaven, Mississippi, seeking their sixth straight South State Championship title.

The Silliman Lady Wildcats softball team recently wrapped their regular season with an impressive 28-5 overall record and 8-0 district record to win their seventh straight District Championship.

The Lady Wildcats will be playing in the AAA South State playoffs Saturday and Monday, seeking their sixth straight South State Championship title.

On Sept. 26, the Clinton school will compete at the Hansel King Sports Complex, 1134 Beltline Drive Northeast, in Brookhaven, Mississippi.

The girls are going into the tournament as the No. 1 seed from District 5-AAA and will play the No. 4 seed from District 4-AAA beginning at 10:45 a.m. Saturday. The tournament wraps up Monday.

The top four teams will advance to the AAA state tournament slated for Oct. 3-5 at Shiloh Park in Brandon, Mississippi. Following that tournament, the top two teams will play at home and away in a best-two-out-of-three series beginning Oct. 7 and ending Oct. 10.

Coach Trae Weaver said his team is led by a host of talented players including pitcher Kennedy Carruth, who has a 26-4 record and 1.036 earned run average, as well as a .457 batting average.

Rounding out the starting lineup are shortstop Callie Venable, .500; center fielder Kayla McNabb, .485; third base Mary Morris, .400; first base, Allie Delee, .388, second base Kali Douglas, .377, left fielder Releigh McManus, .368; catcher Maggie Brian, .344; and right fielder Maddie Trahan, .261.
