The Jackson Living History Association invites everyone to its 24th annual Battle of Jackson Crossroads Civil War Reenactment on April 25-26 in Jackson, less than one mile north of Dixon Correctional Institute, 5568 La. 68.

Re-enactments, campsites and Sutlers Row will be held in the fields on La. 68 not far from the original battle site.

This year’s event will attract soldiers and cannons from the southeast region of the United States.

Gates open at 9 a.m. April 25 and at noon April 26. The main battle both days will begin at 2 p.m.

Spectators are encouraged to come early to visit 1860-era campsites and Sutlers Row, featuring period military clothing and specialty items, as well as souvenirs for sale.

Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for senior citizens 62 and older, $3 for youth 7 and up, and children under 6 are admitted free.

Food concessions and bathroom facilities will be available. For information, visit www.battleofjackson crossroads.org or call the East Feliciana Chamber of Commerce at (225) 634-7155.

Plant sale and swap set

The Jackson Tourist Enhancement Committee is hosting a plant sale and swap from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. April 25 in Jackson next to the Feliciana Veterans Memorial site on La. 10.

JTEC needs bulbs, cuttings, plants, saplings or trees from residents cleaning out and trimming their flowerbeds for planting at the site.

“We need anything that grows,” said Audrey Faciane, of the East Feliciana Chamber of Commerce. “Please think of us and donate to our plant sale.”

Donations can be dropped off at the Chamber, 1752 High St., Jackson. For donation pickups or information, call Faciane at (225) 719-0356 or Cynthia Beauvais at (225) 721-1514.

In addition to the plant sale, food, music and items for gardeners will be featured. All proceeds will go toward repainting the mural on the side of the NAPA building.

Additionally, JTEC is selling engraved bricks for the pathway leading up to the memorial. Anyone with relatives serving in the military or who have served is invited to purchase a brick to be engraved with your relative’s name. Bricks are $35 each and will be sold at the plant swap or by calling the Chamber at (225) 634-7155.
