Saints to host North Webster in first-round game
West Feliciana’s football team polished off a 9-1 regular-season record with a 21-0 victory over Kinder last week and enters the Class 3A playoffs as the No. 6. seed.
The Saints will host No. 27 North Webster in a first-round game Friday night at home. The Knights and coach John Ware finished the season 3-7 overall and 1-1 in District 1-3A.
Coach Robb Odom’s West Feliciana squad enters the playoffs on a roll much like it did last season when it was the top overall seed and undefeated through the regular season. It has made it to the semifinals of the playoffs four of the past six seasons, and is hoping for that elusive breakthrough this year.
Since suffering their only loss to University High, which finished the season 10-0 and atop District 6-3A, the Saints have won six straight. They finished second in 6-3A.
The Saints’ defense held Kinder to 116 yards of total offense and six first downs while recovering three fumbles. The home team jumped to a 14-0 halftime advantage on a 23-yard run by Davon Harris and a 48-yard punt return by Derius Davis. The Saints finished the scoring with a 6-yard run by Clayton Howard.
To get fans ready for the playoffs and to celebrate the Saints’ season, the West Feliciana Sports Park is hosting a bonfire pep rally Thursday from 6 to 7 p.m.
