The East Feliciana Drug and Alcohol Awareness Council held its fourth annual Jazzy Night in the Felicianas on Aug. 22 at the American Legion Hall in Clinton.
Guest speakers included marriage and family therapist Danna G. Andrus and East Feliciana schools Superintendent Carlos Sam.
The East Feliciana Drug and Alcohol Awareness Council, in conjunction with District Attorney Sam D’Aquilla, sponsored the gathering.
It is the drug council’s major fundraiser of the year and, with the community’s participation, D’Aquilla said, allows the council to provide speakers for various events and field trips for students.
Sheriff Talmadge Bunch said the parish was grateful for the assistance provided by the event.
Sue Bunch, the sheriff’s wife, said it is an excellent annual affair with great food, fellowship and this year especially had a very entertaining speaker.
“It takes lots of people many days to organize this event. They deserve many thanks,” she said.
Sam said it is an example of people loving their community and the people within it.
“This event was a testament to the commitment of the East Feliciana citizens in waiting to create a drug- and alcohol-free community,” Sam said.
Funds raised will be used to implement and execute programs within East Feliciana Public Schools, Sam said.
All proceeds raised at Jazzy Night and all events sponsored by the East Feliciana Drug and Alcohol Awareness Council are put back into the community.
Jazzy Night featured a buffet dinner and live entertainment from the band RendezvouX, as well as a silent auction.
The drug council was established in December 2010 with the goal of educating youth in the community about the dangers of drugs, alcohol and tobacco and the importance of making smart decisions.
