On the West Feliciana Parish Emergency Operations Center Facebook page, the rising Mississippi River was mentioned this week. The page mentions the Mississippi River is expected to crest on March 18 at nearly 40 feet in Baton Rouge, close to the high-water mark from May.
The post estimates impacts for West Feliciana as the water reaches certain stages in Baton Rouge. If the river reaches 33.5 feet, portions of Cat Island Road become impassable and at 34.5 feet, Cat Island Road is shut off.
A river level of 35.5 feet would send water over Mahoney Road near Tunica Street, and at 36 feet it would top the low-water bridge at Mahoney Road. At 37.5 feet, water would be in Oyster Bar, and at the expected crest of 40 feet, La. 1263, Ferry Road and Ferdinand Street, would be overtopped.
