The East Feliciana High School band, the Marching Tigers, earned first place in the Small Bands division at the Port Arthur Memorial Underground Showdown competition on Jan. 16 in Port Arthur, Texas.

High school bands from Louisiana and Texas participated in the event.

“The Marching Tigers’ success is particularly impressive because a number of our band’s members are middle school students,” Director Louis Smith said. “Our band members have shown great maturity this competition season and have shown incredible growth in musicianship and showmanship as they represent East Feliciana Parish communities.”

Other schools competing in the Small Band category, which included bands with 32 or fewer members on the field, included Glen Oaks High School from Baton Rouge, Washington Marion High School from Lake Charles and Ozen High School from Beaumont, Texas.
