The term “first responder” refers to those individuals who, in the early stages of an incident, are responsible for the protection and preservation of life, property, the environment and other types of emergencies. They face unique risks of being the first people to aid those in need of emergency services.

In coming months, we’ll highlight the first responders of East Feliciana Parish.

This month, we feature Clinton Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Glynn Mayers.

AGE: 67


EDUCATION: A graduate of Clinton High School

FAMILY: He is married to Alice Chase Mayers and between them they have five daughters: Ronna Mayers Tanner and husband Cleve; Brock Mayers West and husband Chris; Shay Mayers Parker and husband Curt; Alison Chase Haygood and husband Davis; and Jackie Chase. They also have 11 grandchildren: Nicholas West, Jacob Parker and fiancée Amanda Hollingsworth, Denver West, Hayes West, Kobe West, Jamey Tanner, Sam Haygood, Gracie West, Ali Elizabeth Chase, Andi Chase and Aaryn Chase.

IN HIS SPARE TIME: He loves fishing, cooking, spending time with kids and grandchildren, traveling, scuba diving and working with the Clinton Fire Department.

EXPERIENCE: He has been a member of Clinton Fire Department since 1986 and has served as the assistant chief for the past 10 years. He is the only certified rescue diver in East Feliciana Parish.

WHY DID HE BECOME A FIREFIGHTER: “I thought by joining the Fire Department that was a way that I could give back to my community.”
