East Feliciana Parish Schools held its inaugural Rural Men Read event March 2, coinciding with the National Education Association’s Read Across America Day that celebrated the birthday of children’s author, Dr. Seuss.

Men of all ages and from communities parishwide — fathers of students, businessmen, district leaders, police officers, firefighters and many others — read a Dr. Seuss book to Head Start, prekindergartners and elementary students in Clinton, Jackson and Slaughter.

The program was developed to help build students’ literacy skills and to showcase leadership within the parish, district officials said.
