Slaughter teen competing in rodeo nationals _lowres

Mary Grace Brian, of Slaughter, earned a position on the Mississippi National High School rodeo team and is competing with teammates at the 67th annual National High School Finals Rodeo in Rock Springs, Wyoming, through Saturday.

She’s competing in the categories of goat-tying and reined cow horse, which includes herd work, rein work and cow work.

Brian is one of more than 1,500 contestants from 42 states, five Canadian provinces and Australia competing for more than $200,000 in prizes and $350,000 in college scholarships and the chance to be named a National High School Finals Rodeo champion.

The soon-to-be senior at Central Private Academy has been participating in rodeo events since the age of 5.

Brian has been part of the National High School Rodeo Association for the past four years.

She is the daughter of Stacey Beck and Harvard Brian.
