Jackson Elementary students in grades three through five participated in a workshop April 13, led by motivational speaker Fairest Hill, who helped them prepare for state LEAP and iLEAP testing that began Monday and ends Friday.

A resident of Tampa Bay, Florida, Hill was raised in Detroit by a pastor father and recording artist mother. He grew up in a Christian home, developing a love for music from his mother, Tessie Hill, a Grammy nominee.

However, according to Hill, it was “God that instilled the talent and skill required for playing instruments, singing, composing and producing music.”

While traveling the world and visiting different schools, businesses, churches and organizations, Hill delivers messages that he hopes inspire people to keep working hard and not give up.

He is the founder and director of the nonprofit Youth On The Move, USA, a ministry that’s given him the opportunity to train over 1 million youth in public schools across the nation and around the world with his motivational “Yes, You Can Win” message. His workshop, How to Slam Dunk That Test, helps students develop test-taking strategies.

Hill also led a parent workshop in Clinton on April 9 during a childhood enrollment fair for East Feliciana Parish Schools.
