Slaughter senior is commended student _lowres

Slaughter Community Charter School Principal Clint Ebey will present a letter of commendation to senior Logan Box, 17, who has been named a commended student in the 2016 National Merit Scholarship Program.

About 34,000 commended students nationwide are being recognized for their exceptional academic performance. Although they will not continue in the 2016 competition for National Merit Scholarship Awards, commended students place among the top 5 percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2016 competition by taking the preliminary SAT and National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

The son of Gary and Beth Box, a mechanical engineer and 28-year math teacher, respectively, the Slaughter senior is an honor roll student .

He is a member of the Beta Club, was president of his junior class and is a recipient of the Honesty and Integrity Award from St. Alban’s Masonic Lodge No. 28 of Jackson.

He is an active member of Norwood Baptist Church’s youth group .

After graduating from SCCS, Box intends to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering at LSU or Mississippi State University.
