New Audubon Pilgrimage ready for 45th year (copy) _lowres

The East Feliciana Parish Chamber of Commerce is hosting its annual summer banquet from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Old Centenary Inn, 1740 Charter St., Jackson. Guest speaker will be state Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon.

Cost to attend is $35 per person and includes dinner and open bar, but attendees are asked to bring cash for tips.

Movie in the Park

The East Feliciana Parish Drug and Alcohol Awareness Council is hosting its next Movie in the Park at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Wilson. Everyone is invited to bring their lawn chairs and blankets to watch “Zootopia” at the Calvin Jackson Memorial Park across from Wilson Town Hall. The animated movie is rated PG. Snacks will be available for purchase.

Ladies prayer breakfast

The quarterly Ladies Ecumenical Prayer Breakfast will be held at 8:30 a.m. Saturday and hosted by the women of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, in the church hall, 11485 Ferdinand St., St. Francisville.

Women from the West Feliciana Parish area are invited to attend this free event.

Guest speakers will be Billy and Erin Foster, of Zachary, who will share information about The Lot Project, a parking lot ministry they founded and are working with in Baton Rouge.

Clothing donations sought

The Helping in His Name Food Bank, 3604 College Drive, Jackson, is opening a Clothes Closet and currently accepting donations of new and gently worn clothing that has no rips or stains.

Reasonably priced items will be sold from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday, and everyone is invited.

Following the first sale, the Clothes Closet will be open the same days and as the food pantry, every second and fourth Tuesday. Proceeds from clothing sales benefit the food pantry.

Grand opening

The East Feliciana Parish Drug and Alcohol Awareness Council has a new office and is hosting a grand-opening event to celebrate from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 15 at 12126 Liberty Road in Clinton.

The community is invited to attend. Refreshments will be served.

Feliciana Trade Days

Area artisans and crafters begin setting up about 8 a.m. every third Saturday in Jackson for Feliciana Trade Days to sell their handcrafted and homemade wares.

Held at 4413 La. 10 at Line Road in Jackson, Trade Days features vendors selling their antiques, artwork, crocheted items, clothes, dolls, jewelry, pickled vegetables, pottery, plants and plenty of yard sale items.

The event, started by Darryl and Glenda Fournier, lasts until about 5 p.m.

A Taste of Tea and Thee

Visitors to Audubon State Historic Site, 11788 La. 965, St. Francisville, are invited to sample a selection of carefully chosen specialty teas from the Colonial and Victorian periods from noon until 3 p.m. on July 16. Visitors will learn the about the roots and etiquette of the afternoon tea.

Oakley volunteer workshop

For West Feliciana Parish area residents who have volunteered previously for Audubon State Historic Site programs or are new to volunteering for living history events, or for those who would like to volunteer regularly but don’t know where to start, a volunteer workshop is planned for 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. July 17.

Park staff will help participants develop the skills needed for hands-on, living history programs and tours of Oakley House.

Vacation Bible School set

Church leaders and volunteers at Jackson United Methodist Church, 1727 Sycamore St., Jackson, have been meeting for several weeks planning Vacation Bible School for area youths.

Children ages 4 to 12 are invited to participate from 9 a.m. until noon July 18 through July 22.

This year’s theme is “Surf Shack: Catch the Wave of God’s Amazing Love.”
