The public schools in East Feliciana Parish held the annual Parental Involvement Kickoff and Title I meeting on Nov. 13 at the East Feliciana Early Childhood Learning Center in Clinton.

After a welcome from Edna Lusk Thomas, director of School and Community Support, families heard from Jackson Elementary School National Board-certified teacher Mary Trigg and East Feliciana High School Assistant Principal Jeremye Brooks.

They talked about how they can support their students with the new Common Core State Standards.

District Test Coordinator Latricia Ford-Anderson provided information about tests students will take this school year, including the new Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Career tests.

Families also visited booths from each school that provided information about how families can get involved at the school level.

“As we transition to more difficult standards, we feel very fortunate to have teachers and parents who are so committed to making sure the children of East Feliciana Parish are ready to meet the challenge,” said Superintendent Henderson Lewis Jr. “We know that our students will rise to the occasion.”
