Laughter filled Slaughter Town Hall for the showing of “Paddington” on June 12.
Sponsored by the East Feliciana Parish Drug and Alcohol Awareness Council and District Attorney Sam D’Aquilla’s office, the free summer movie event was enjoyed by the adults in attendance as much as the children, according to Councilwoman Deborah Thomas.
Prizes were awarded by Thomas and fellow Councilwoman Rhonda Torrence, who told the youth in attendance they would have to “work for the big prize of a $25 gift certificate.”
To become eligible to win, youth were challenged to stand and discuss any topic they wished, Thomas said.
Following the movie, Joshua Hayes was named the winner.
All prizes were donated by D’Lonzo Brown, Thomas’ son.
The next Movie in the Park will begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Calvin Jackson Memorial Park in Wilson.
The movie — “Earth to Echo” — is about a group of kids who embark on an adventure with an alien who needs their help after receiving a bizarre series of encrypted messages.
The East Feliciana community of Jackson will host the next Movie in the Park event July 24.
