Jackson Elementary School second-grader Malachi Brown sits in the school's author's chair on Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2017, to read a piece he wrote about Thanksgiving.
The author's chair is one component of the school's daily schoolwide student-led morning meeting.
During morning meetings, students and teachers recognize their peers, practice skip counting to develop mathematical fluency by singing "number rolling" songs, and learn more about the school's value for the month. The school's value for November is gratitude.
This week's morning meetings were led by Antonio Muse's second grade homeroom, LSU. Homerooms at JES are named for the homeroom teacher's alma mater.
