Henry Terrell and his wife, Velma Houston Terrell, will receive the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Minnesota during a Nov. 20 banquet.
The awards are being given in honor of their 58 years of leadership and service in public school administration and presented by the dean of the college of education and human development.
Twenty-five alumni receive the award each year.
Henry Terrell is a native of Wilson and a former teacher and coach in East Feliciana Parish schools. He and Velma Terrell received their undergraduate and graduate degrees from Southern University and doctorates from the University of Minnesota.
They were the first husband and wife administrators in the Minneapolis public school system, a news release said.
Henry Terrell retired from the Minneapolis pubic school system as a superintendent and Velma Terrell retired as a secondary school principal.
Henry Terrell is the son of the late Lawrence and Octavia Weatherspoon Terrell, of Wilson, and the brother of Harriett Sensley, Sonja Terrell, Mary Charles, Sie Terrell and the late Ruth Wright and James Terrell Sr.
Velma Terrell’s parents are the late Rev. Ulysses and Mary Houston, of Baton Rouge.
