Nancy Covington and Louise Reynolds, both of East Feliciana Parish, accompanied by Brenda Gardner, Council on Aging director, attended the 2015 National Senior Olympic Games on July 3-16 in Minnesota.
The national Olympic events are held every two years.
Both women competed in horseshoes with Covington receiving a silver medal and Reynolds placing fourth.
Reynolds ran the 60-meter race and took part in the high jump.
“These two ladies participated in the 80- to 84-year-old age group, which makes them a winner by any stretch of your imagination,” Gardner said.
Qualifying for the National Senior Olympics, Gardner said, is a lengthy process. Senior athletes must first participate at the district level and place first, second or third.
The winners from district events compete at the state level and must place first, second or third in order to participate at the national level, she said.
Anyone interested in participating in the Senior Games should contact the Council on Aging office, 11102 Bank St., in Clinton at (225) 683-9862.
