The Countdown to Christmas free community event has been rescheduled because of the weather. It is now set for 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 16 at the West Feliciana Parks and Recreation Complex. Arts and crafts, cookies and cocoa, Santa pictures, live music, a bonfire and more will be available.
School break to begin
Remember the Christmas break for students starts Wednesday, Dec. 20, for West Feliciana public schools, and Thursday, Dec. 21, for East Feliciana public schools. This means children will be out in unexpected places for the next few weeks. Be careful while driving.
Rosedown Plantation State Historic Site is decked with 19-century-style Christmas décor: greenery garlands, fruit and nut displays, cypress and cedar wreaths, and poinsettia blooms inside as well as red and green in the gardens from many varieties of blooming camellias, assorted types of holly, Christmas berry, nandina and pyracantha. The site is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Guided tours are provided on the hour, beginning at 10 a.m. and continuing until 4 p.m. Closed on Christmas Day. Visit lastateparks.com for information.
Holy St. John’s Night
Everyone is invited to the Holy St. John’s Night celebration by Phillip’s Masonic Lodge No. 238 and Order of Eastern Star Progressive Chapter No. 186 at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, at Union Baptist Church, 17038 La. 67, Norwood.
Shop St. Francisville
Merchants in St. Francisville will host Sip and Shop on Thursdays, Dec. 14 and Dec. 21. The late-night shopping event features specials and refreshments at area shops. Most shops are open until at least 7 p.m. for the event.
Peace on Earth

Light the night
Through Jan. 7, Zachary's historic district has a drive-through holiday LED light show. Set the radio to 105.9 FM when entering to hear the music as your family experiences the lights between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.
Also ZooLights at the BREC Zoo runs through Dec. 30 but is closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Admission is 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., with the grounds closing at 9 p.m. The milelong trail has more than 50 illuminated displays. Special activities include Safari Santa on Dec. 15-16, ornament crafting on Dec. 22-23 and Ugandan Kids Choir performances at 6 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. Dec. 23. Admission is $5 for adults and teens, $4 for seniors and $3 for children ages 2 to 12 and for Friends of the Zoo members.
Tickets are on sale for the Feb. 1 Feliciana Ducks Unlimited Banquet. The event will be at the Old Clubhouse at The Bluffs.
