Reginald D. Ellis, executive director of the USDA Farm Service Agency in East and West Feliciana and East Baton Rouge parishes, reminds area farmers and landowners that the FSA is hosting an informational meeting regarding the 2016 County Committee Election process at 11 a.m. July 14 at the St. Francisville Farmers Market barn on Wilcox Street.
Producers are encouraged to attend the meeting and participate in the 2016 election.
The county committee nomination period began June 15, and Ellis said nomination forms must be postmarked or received in the East/West Feliciana and East Baton Rouge Parish FSA Office, 9752 Plank Road, Clinton, LA, 70722 by close of business Aug. 1.
For election purposes, parishes are divided into local administrative areas, and each LAA nominates and elects one producer to serve a three-year term on the FSA County Committee.
Each year, an election is held in an LAA where a committee member’s three-year term is expiring, and for 2016, an election will be held in LAA 2, which includes the West Feliciana communities of Angola, St. Francisville, Tunica, Wakefield and Weyanoke.
“Farmers and ranchers in LAA 2 are urged to participate in this year’s county committee elections by nominating candidates by the Aug. 1 deadline,” Ellis said. “County committees are unique to FSA and allow producers to have a voice on federal farm program implementation at the local level.”
