Former Denham Springs High School teacher and coach Robbie Spangler recently returned to campus to talk about how her husband, a DSHS graduate, died during the Vietnam War.

She told students in William Bradford’s U.S. history classes that her husband, Specialist 4th Class Carl Cain, was killed in action on March 6, 1969, during a search-and-destroy mission.

Students were able to view Cain’s medals, photos and the telegram informing the family of his death.

Three graduates, in addition to Carl Cain, were killed in action during the Vietnam War, Bradford said. Also killed were Doug Impson, Dickie Brumfield and Benjamin Bennett.
