Walker High School’s powerlifting team competed in the Jeremy Vincent Invitational Meet held Jan. 30 at Walker Freshman High School.

Seniors who placed in the meet include Brandon Racca, who placed second in his weight class of 148.8 pounds, and Clarke Turner, who placed third in his weight class of 242 pounds.

The meet is named after Lance Cpl. Jeremy Dakota Vincent, who competed in football, track and powerlifting before graduating from Walker High in May 2009. He served in the United States Marine Corps from July 13, 2009, to July 23, 2013, completing two tours of duty in Afghanistan. He then applied and was accepted to the University of Arizona, but days before classes were to start, Vincent died when his motorcycle was struck by a drunken driver.

Vincent’s family continues to support Walker High powerlifting by making the T-shirts that are worn by team members and their parents. The shirts also are sold during the meet.
