Mardi Gras bead art

Adults ages 18 and older can use a few simple materials and Mardi Gras beads to make a mosaic at several Livingston Parish Library branches. Materials will be provided, but participants are welcome to bring their own beads. Registration is required.

Healthy start to new year

The Main Branch of Livingston Parish Library is focusing on health from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

Southeast Community Health Systems representatives will discuss healthy eating, dental care and behavioral health, and will provide blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol checks. Health-care navigators will be available to help those applying for Affordable Care Act coverage, and a free yoga class will be offered.

Young Makers Workshop I

The Albany-Springfield Branch of Livingston Parish Library’s free monthly Maker workshop for ages 8 to 11 gets underway at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

This month’s session features Makey Makey and banana pianos, Play-Doh controllers and game buttons you draw yourself, followed by programming with Scratch as the next step.

Tax preparation

Looking for a little help with your taxes? The Denham Springs-Walker Branch of Livingston Parish Library may be the place for you.

Free tax preparation for participants with an income limit of $60,000 for 2015 is available from 9:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Jan. 21. Bring tax documents such as W-2s, 1099s and information for deductions and credits, along with a copy of last year’s tax return and a Social Security card for yourself, a spouse and dependents. You also may bring proof of a bank account for direct deposit. Volunteers will prepare most simple returns.

Paddington’s magic show

Paddington Bear brings his silly magic show and storytime to the Denham Springs-Walker Branch of Livingston Parish Library at 6 p.m. Jan. 21. After the show, children can make a suitcase for their teddy bear at home.
