A free workshop for parents and students of Livingston Parish who are going from elementary to middle school will be held from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Literacy and Technology Center, 9261 Florida Blvd., Walker.
Presenters Steve Parrill and Scarlet Monteleone will discuss academic challenges, staying organized, using social media wisely, peer pressure and more. Seating is limited.

Senior crime expo
The Livingston Parish SALT Council (Seniors and Lawmen Together) will sponsor the 18th annual Senior Crime Expo from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Abundant Life Church, 206 Edgewood Drive, Denham Springs.
Representatives from agencies and businesses that provide services to seniors will participate with information for attendees.

The Livingston Parish Soccer Association will host competitive tryouts at the LPSA Soccer Complex/Sidney Hutchinson Park on Corbin Road in Walker.
Boys and girls U11-U13 will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Tuesday and 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. May 17. Boys and girls U14-U18 will be from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. June 5, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. June 14 and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. June 16.
The semiannual smoked pulled pork dinners, sponsored by the Hungarian Settlement Society, will be available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the Hungarian Historical Museum, La. 43, Albany, exit 32 off Interstate 12.
Dinners will be $7 and include pulled pork, coleslaw, baked beans, roll and dessert. Those interested may dine on-site or pick up.

Mother’s Day raffle
Women Outreaching Women, a nonprofit organization that helps women and children fleeing domestic violence, is selling raffle tickets for a Dooney & Bourke brown leather purse for a Mother’s Day raffle. Tickets are $5 each. The drawing will be Friday.
WOW works to educate the community on how to recognize family violence, where to seek help and what can be done to prevent further abuse to women and children who are suffering from domestic violence. On Sept. 1, 2004, WOW opened the first and only emergency domestic violence shelter in Livingston Parish. It has provided more than 16,000 safe nights for women and children fleeing from domestic violence.
