Poultry premier exhibitor Matt Seguin, of Livingston Parish 4-H, was among six youths recognized Feb. 20 as winners of the Gerry Lane Premier Exhibitor Award at the 81st annual LSU AgCenter Livestock Show, held at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales.

Recipients are honored for their knowledge, skills and communications abilities.

The premier exhibitor program recognizes 4-H and FFA members who may not have champion animals but who have a thorough understanding of animal science, a news release said.

Participants have to pass an exam, take part in a skill-a-thon, write an essay, prepare a ré sumé and show poise and confidence during an interview with livestock show officials, livestock show manager Dwayne Nunez said.

Winners received a $500 cash award, a commemorative belt buckle and a monogrammed jacket through an endowment from Gerry Lane Enterprises, of Baton Rouge.

Receiving trophies as other local finalists in the premier exhibitor program, by category and in order of placing, were:

DAIRY: second, Megan Mincey, Denham Springs FFA; fourth, Matt Seguin; and fifth, Luke Seguin, Livingston Parish 4-H.

POULTRY: third, Luke Seguin.
