Pelican State Credit Union is giving away $20 in free groceries to the first 200 shoppers to visit Carter’s Supermarket, 8439 Vincent Road, Denham Springs, starting at 9 a.m. Friday.
Carter’s Supermarket is locally owned and operated by the Cain family, a news release said.
Those interested do not have to be a member of the credit union to receive free groceries and no purchase is necessary, the release said. Pelican asks that shoppers be 18 or older and claim their $20 of free groceries in person.
Pelican representatives will be on hand to greet and guide people through the process of receiving their free groceries. Groceries will be bagged in reusable shopping totes, the release said.
The Grocery Store Giveaway is one of the many ways the credit union is giving back to its branch communities and encouraging consumers to bank local, the release said. This year, the credit union gave away $2,000 in a money booth at the Denham Springs’ Spring Festival and will return to the Fall Festival with more money and prizes for Pelican members, the release said.
Pelican’s Denham Springs branch is at 145 Rushing Road and has been part of the community for more than 10 years.
