SLU hosts medal winner at orchestra concert _lowres

Violinist Ilya Kaler, a three-time gold medal winner at international competitions, will be the featured artist at the Southeastern Louisiana University Chamber Orchestra’s Spring Concert..

The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Columbia Theatre for the Performing Arts in downtown Hammond. The orchestra will be conducted by Southeastern’s Yakov Voldman.

T he Russian-born Kaler has won gold medals at three of the world’s prestigious violin competitions: the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, Sibelius Competition in Helsinki and the Paganini Competition in Genoa. He is a graduate of the Moscow Central Music School and the Moscow State Conservatory and has held teaching positions at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, and the Indiana University School of Music in Bloomington, the release said.
