The cheer and dance teams from St. Thomas Aquinas Regional Catholic High School in Hammond recently attended summer camps with the Universal Cheerleading Association and the Universal Dance Association.
The cheerleaders attended camp in Gulf Shores, Alabama. The team won first place in both cheer and chant, fourth in extreme routine and were named Gameday Champs.
Seniors Britley Wells and Allie Ridgell were named All-Americans.
The Starlettes dance team attended a convention camp in New Orleans, where they were awarded the Leadership Award, voted on by all the teams who attend the camp. The Starlettes’ home routine placed second, and the team received a Superior Trophy, which earns them an automatic bid to UDA’s National Dance Team Championship in Orlando, Florida, in late January. The Starlettes also brought home a spirit stick.
Seniors Chloe Chauvin, Haileigh Bolton, Emily Owens and Cailin Sampey were named All-Americans.
Both teams are preparing for their Summer Kid Camps for prekindergarten through eighth grade. Starlettes camp is July 13-15, and cheer camp is July 22-24.
