From now until Dec. 15, Pelican State Credit Union will give Facebook users a chance to win $500 to keep and $500 to donate to the charity of their choice, a news release from Pelican State Credit Union said.
Adults 18 or older, who post a photo of themselves doing a good deed on Pelican’s Facebook page by the deadline will be entered into the drawing to win.

The AARP is in need of nonprofit and government organizations in Livingston Parish to serve as host agencies for the Senior Community Service Employment Program. The SCSEP is a Title V government program that provides workers at no charge to the organization, a news release from the AARP said. These workers obtain valuable training in order to prepare them for employment, the release said.
Those eligible must be 55 or older, must reside in Livingston Parish and must not exceed federal poverty guidelines.
SCSEP pays the participant’s wages and workers compensation insurance, the release said. SCSEP participants are not volunteers; they are paid for their time in training and generally work 18 hours per week as bookkeepers, office assistants, child care workers, outreach workers, computer operators, custodian/maintenance workers, couriers, drivers, receptionists, secretaries, health care workers, sales associates, library aides and nutrition aides.

This year, the annual Pride of the Parish Middle School Soccer Tournament will include teams from Southside Junior High, Live Oak Middle School and the Livingston Parish Express. Proceeds from the tournament will support soccer in schools. Each night, girls teams will play at 6 p.m. and boys teams will play at 7:30 p.m.
On Tuesday, the Livingston Parish Express will play Southside at Denham Springs High School’s Yellow Jacket stadium; on Wednesday, the LP Express will play Live Oak Middle School at LOMS stadium; on Dec. 15, Southside will play Live Oak Middle at LOMS stadium; and on Dec. 18, the championship games are at DSHS Yellow Jacket stadium. The winner of the championship games will take home the Pride of the Parish trophy.
