Independence Elementary School teamed up with the Independence Branch of the Tangipahoa Parish Library this summer to encourage students to continue to read throughout the summer while enjoying the presentations offered during the summer reading program.

Seventeen students attended at least eight special programs and/or logged in a minimum of 10 hours of reading. The students were recognized in a special presentation on Sept. 14 during which each student received a Thumbs Up Trophy and Star Student Medal, books, hero bookmarks and hero pencils.
