Delos Blackwell is seeking re-election to the Livingston Parish Council District 9 seat.
Blackwell said he will continue to work on drainage problems in the district, which includes Holden, Albany, the area north of Albany and Hungarian Settlement.
Blackwell, 65, a Democrat, said he has implemented hundreds of work orders with the Department of Public Works and been a vocal supporter of veterans’ and citizens’ rights since he took office.
“I believe if you take a little of a man’s rights today, it opens a door to take more tomorrow,” he said in a statement. “I believe we are a parish of laws and ordinances, but you have to be careful when you create a law that you are not taking away the rights of another man.”
Blackwell, co-chairman of the council in 2015, has been a member of the Ordinance Review Committee for four years of his term and the chairman of that committee in 2014.
He stressed the importance of the parish administration and council working together and pledged “his continued effort to work with all elected officials of the parish.”
“I look forward to serving the people of District 9 for another four years, will continue to have an open door to all the constituents and I ask for your vote,” he said.
