BASF recently awarded a scholarship in the amount of $2,500 to D’Antonio Daigre, an engineering student at Southern University in Baton Rouge.

“BASF’s Team Chemistry Scholarship Program encourages students to pursue STEM-related degrees and to support careers in our industry,” said Tom Yura, senior vice president and manager of the BASF site in Geismar.

The scholarships are awarded to students who maintain excellent grade-point averages and are active in campus and community organizations, a news release said.

Daigre, a sophomore mechanical engineering major from Denham Springs, graduated from Walker High School with honors in 2014. He is an Honors College Scholar and a member of the Louisiana Collegiate Honors Council, the National Collegiate Honors Council, the Southern Regional Honors Council and the National Association of African American Honors Programs. Daigre is active in the Student Government Association and the Men’s Federation, volunteers with the Louisiana Youth Sports Network and the Baton Rouge Animal Shelter and is a member of the Southern football team.
