Students win roles in Nutcracker play _lowres

Several students from Hammond Eastside Magnet, an International Baccalaureate World School and performing arts magnet, participated in the Hammond Ballet’s “The Nutcracker.”

The following students auditioned and were granted roles:

Payton Harrell, a first-grader, was cast as a bunny soldier who pulled the Rat King’s tail during the battle scene.

Savannah Johnson, a first-grader, played a soldier in the battle scene and a lamb whodanced with shepherdesses Marzipan and Clara.

Mykell Jones, a fifth-grader, played a party boy who danced and played with Fritz as well as a brigade soldier in the battle scene.

Brooke Mauer, a third-grader, played a tall mouse that tried attacking Clara to get her nutcracker and an angel who helped light the way to the “Land of the Sweets.”

Chelsea Swanner, a first-grader, was cast as a soldier during the battle scene and an angel as well.

Braden Greer, a fourth-grader, played a leading role as Fritz, the brother who broke Clara’s nutcracker.

Clara, a leading role, was played by Hammond Eastside’s Eva Delatte, a fifth-grader.

As a performing arts magnet and International Baccalaureate World School, HEM encourages students to be involved in the community, a news release from the school said.
