The Live Oak High School cheerleaders competed at the Universal Cheerleaders Association’s Louisiana regional competition on Nov. 8 at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond.
They competed in two separate competitions.
The Game Day competition consisted of simulated “game day” events in which the cheerleaders are judged on how well they respond to different situations — offense cheer, defense cheer, time out or fight song. Live Oak came in third of nine teams in its first time in the competition.
The second competition, Regional Championship in the medium varsity division, saw five teams competing, including Denham Springs High School. The competition is a 2-minute, 30-second routine including tumbling, a dance, cheer, aerial stunts and a pyramid. Live Oak won the competition and received an invitation to the National High School Cheer Competition, set for Feb. 6-7 at Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
Live Oak will compete next at the LHSAA State Cheer Championship in Monroe on Nov. 21.
Coaches are Kate Allen and Maddie Guidry. Sponsors are Katie Caldwell, Jimmie Chandler and Erica Wilson.
