  • LIVE OAK HIGH 5K: 8 a.m., Live Oak High School, 36079 La. 16, Denham Springs. Live Oak High School will host the annual 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run for all ages. Post race party includes food, smoothies, cold drinks and music.
  • ART COUNCIL OF LIVINGSTON PARISH OPEN HOUSE: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Art Council of Livingston Parish, 133 Hummell St., Denham Springs. The ACLP invites you to tour its gallery, exhibits and live artist demos and to learn about the variety of art classes and events offered. Free Admission. Light refreshments served.

BANNED BOOKS WEEK: CRAFT AND WATCH: 10 A.M., SOUTH BRANCH LIBRARY. CELEBRATE BANNED BOOKS WEEK BY WATCHING A MOVIE BASED ON ONE OF THE MOST FREQUENTLY CHALLENGED BOOKS OF 2014 AND MAKING CRAFTS FROM OLD BOOKS AND THE COVERS OF FREQUENTLY BANNED BOOKS. AGES 18 AND UP.

  • LIVE OAK CLASS OF ‘95 REUNION: 7 p.m., Forrest Grove Plantation, 8743 Stephenson Drive, Denham Springs. A free reunion family picnic will be held at the high school at noon. Bring your family, your own picnic lunch and drinks. After lunch, a tour of the new school grounds will be offered. Cost is $50 per person or $100 per couple. Ticket cost includes rental of facility, buffet dinner, DJ and decorations. Cash bar available.

SUNDAY

  • TICKFAW BOOPALU’S FALL FLING: noon, 29669 La. 22, Springfield. 2015 Fall Fling all proceeds go to Florida Parish Special Olympics. $10.00 armbands for “eating under the cypress.” Food booths,raffles, silent auctions free bands and a DJ; come join us.
  • KNIT FOR A CAUSE: 3 p.m., Denham Springs-Walker Branch Library. Participants will learn how to start a knitting project and learn the knit stitch while working on a blanket square to send to “Warm Up America,” a nonprofit organization that distributes afghans to the needy.

  • BANNED BOOKS WEEK: CRAFT AND WATCH A MOVIE: 6 p.m., Watson Branch. Celebrate Banned Books Week by watching a movie based on one of the most frequently challenged books of 2014 and making crafts from old books and the covers of frequently banned books.

  • OIL PAINTING CLASS: 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Art Council of Livingston Parish. The instructor will demonstrate the direct painting technique to create a small oil painting of a still life. Attendees will paint a small still life using oil paints. All supplies provided. Space is limited. $15 supply fee. Ages 16 and up.
  • STORYTIME: 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Denham Springs-Walker Branch Library.
  • EMAIL BASICS: 2 p.m., Denham Springs-Walker Branch Library. This class teaches the student how to create an email account. Ages 12 and up.
  • ARTBOTS: 6 p.m., Main Branch Library. Create your own markers and learn the science behind color. Registration is required. Ages 6-11.
  • NAIL POLISH JEWELRY MAKING: 6 p.m., Art Council of Livingston Parish. The Arts Council of Livingston Parish invites ages 14 and up to a nail polish jewelry making class.

  • WRITER’S CIRCLE: 6:30 p.m., Denham Springs-Walker Branch Library. Published and unpublished adult writers of fiction or nonfiction for adults, young adults, or children are welcome. The group provides a forum for sharing writing, a venue for learning more about the writing craft and more.
  • “THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE”: 6:30 p.m., Suma Crossing Theatre, 28975 South Satsuma Road, Livingston. LPSS Talented Arts Program will present this live stage production. Show is directed by Melani Glascock, artistic director is Sherry Martin, and sound director is Tim Richardson. Tickets are $5 students and $10 adults. Tickets may be purchased at the door; event is general seating.
