Holy Ghost Catholic School in Hammond has named Anna Doan as the 2015-16 recipient of the Mother Seton Award, established by the Diocese of Baton Rouge in 1986 in honor of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton.
Seton was a wife, mother and educator who established a school for girls in the United States that became the start of the Catholic school system, a news release said.
The award honors those who emulate Seton through volunteering their time, gifts and talents in service and dedication to home, family, school, church and community, the release said.
Doan is a classroom volunteer and fundraiser participant. She enjoys giving classroom presentations about her home continent of Africa and has been the main training coach for the school cross country team for several years, placing an emphasis on Christian sportsmanship. Doan’s three children, Bryan, Brody and Bronwyn, are students at Holy Ghost.
