An escaped Department of Corrections inmate from Catahoula Parish turned himself into U.S. Marshals in Livingston Parish on Sunday morning, a Tangipahoa Sheriff's Offices spokeswoman said.

Sedrick Smith, 33, escaped July 22 after hitting a deputy and jumping out of a van traveling on Interstate 55, said Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Dawn Panepinto.

Smith was booked into Tangipahoa Parish Prison on one count each of aggravated escape and battery of a police officer, Panepinto said.

The Tangipahoa, Livingston and St. Helena sheriff's offices, Louisiana State Police and Hammond Police Department were all searching for Smith.
