Tangipahoa Parish Assessor Joaquin “JR.” Matheu and his staff worked with the Youth Services Bureau to help a needy family for Christmas again this year.

New Horizon Administrative Specialist Natoyah Ledbetter, with the YSB, said this year’s family featured two grandparents raising their five grandchildren ranging in age from 4 to 16.

Matheu said he and his staff do not get the name of the family, just the ages and genders of its members. With that information, his staff then buys presents and gift cards for the family.

Terry Pisciotta, with the Assessor’s Office, coordinates the gift drive each year. She said in addition to donations from staff members, this year two bowling teams — Rack Em Up and Alcoballics Anonymous, from the Tangi Chicks Bowling League — contributed to the gift drive, as well as the Beauty Barn in Walker.

“Our office is all about service to the community. Whether it’s a question about your assessment or community involvement, we are here to serve,” Pisciotta said.
