The Livingston Council on Aging will hold its annual meeting at the Senior Center, 949 Government Drive, Denham Springs, at 8 am. May 22. Two board members from Livingston Parish will be elected. Board meetings will be held at 10 a.m. the fourth Thursday of January, March, May, July, September and November. The COA will also celebrate their 41st anniversary with the theme “Louisiana Cajun Traditions.” There will be many Louisiana foods, activities, music and door prizes.
The Albany-Springfield Library invites all gardening enthusiasts to come out for a free spring plant and seed swap at 11 a.m. May 23. Participants are asked to bring plants or seeds to exchange and pick up new ones for their garden. For information, call (225) 567-1441.
Residents are invited to join the Watson Library’s songwriter’s circle at 2 p.m. May 24. Patrons should bring their own instruments. Participants will sit in a circle and play their original songs. Critiques will be provided.
While musicians do not have to write songs in order to participate, songwriting is strongly encouraged. This is a great non-pressure environment for songwriters and instrumentalists to hone their skills and have a good time in the process, organizers said.

Altered book art
Participants will learn how to transform old books into new art at 10 a.m. May 29 at the Denham Springs-Walker Library.
Altered books are a mixed media art form through which a book is transformed into a new object with a different meaning. Participants will cut, tear, glue, paint and stamp to transform old, unused books into new works of art. Library staff will also teach other techniques to repurpose books for home decoration and practical use. All supplies will be provided.

Community Hands benefit
Community Hands of Livingston Parish, an ecumenical ministry supported and staffed by a number of churches in the Livingston area, will hold a fish fry and garage sale fundraiser June 6 and June 7 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 865 Hatchell Lane, Denham Springs.
Local delivery will be available for five dinners or more. The cost is $7 per plate, prepared by the Knights of Columbus of Immaculate Conception Church. It will be held in conjunction with the garage sale located under the Parish Pavilion from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 6 from and from 7 a.m. to noon June 7.
