The Maurepas High School Senior Beta Club attended the State Beta Club Convention in Lafayette in January.
The club members participated in many activities, including taking academic tests, competing in Quiz Bowl and competing and voting for state offices.
The club earned the distinction of being named a Gold Key Club, which is awarded to those clubs that have a 10 percent or higher growth in attendance. The club also was named a champion philanthropy for its sponsorship of a community Bike-A-Thon. The money raised by the event helped to fund a state charity that supports families with children battling cancer.
Two Maurepas students received individual awards: Chaz Montaldo was awarded second place in the state agriculture test and Ava Borskey earned third place in the creative writing contest.
